Island Storm
Learn to Play Hockey for Women

Picture
If you are brand-new to hockey this is the class for you. The program teaches the basics of hockey to women who are beginners or recreational skaters. The class is divided into instruction during the first half and easy scrimmaging at the end.

Visit their website and Facebook page for more info.

Class review from PghWHR:
This is a great program to start out with. The class is held at an easy pace with no pushing, so you can learn at your own pace. All ages (over 18) and abilities are welcome. If you have some experience and are looking for a challenging or in-depth skills class, this might not be your best fit.

Classes at Mt. Lebanon

There are many adult classes offered throughout the year at Mt. Lebanon Ice Center. Classes include Adult Skills and Drills, Adult Systems, Women's Clinics, Power Skating, Parent and Child Hockey, and Goalie Clinics.

For more information, visit their website or call 412-561-4363.
Class review from PghWHR-Adult Systems:
Adult Systems is well worth your time once you've had a bit of playing time under your belt. The class covers positioning, breakouts, offensive and defensive zone strategies, etc. with scrimmage time at the end to attempt to implement what you've learned. I'd recommend being comfortable with your basic skills before taking this class, to get the most out of it. It's definitely one of those classes where you'll only get out what you put in to it. But there is a TON to learn and I highly recommend it once you start entering formal (D-league or above) play.

RMU Adult Hockey
Skills Classes

The focus of this program is to emphasize the importance of basic hockey skating skills and advance them into more difficult moves as you progress through the weeks.

For more information, visit their website or call 412-397-3335 ext.0 or Marianne Watkins 412-397-4468 watkins@rmuislandsports.org.

Class review from PghWHR:
This is NOT for beginner skaters. I'd recommend you have at least a year of skating experience to get the most from this class. That said, even experienced skaters with years of practice will learn things. Marianne is a gifted skating coach and we're really lucky to have her here. When available (which is most of the time), one of the RMU Div I coaches assists for the second half of the class teaching stick/puckhandling skills and shooting. I can't recommend this class enough:)

 E&P Hockey Adult Classes
Schenley Park

Ed and Phil have been running an adult hockey skills class out of the Schenley Park ice rink for years each winter. The class is divided into time spent on basic hockey drills and scrimmaging.

For more information, visit their Facebook page.

Class review from PghWHR:
The class is fairly informal with some open practice time at the beginning, a few formal drills, and then most of the time spent scrimmaging. If you are in the East End this is a convenient place to play and it's always cool to play outside, especially at night. The skill level really varies from pure beginners to some C-level abilities which makes for interesting scrimmaging. For ice time and convenience the class is worthwhile, but for formal teaching I'd suggest RMU or Mt. Lebo.
